The 49th year of Brno-based music festival Moravian Autumn commissioned a new piece by a great Czech composer Marek Kopelent (*1932). The premiere took place on October 16 in Besední dům’s concert hall as a part of the concert of Ensemble Berlin Prag.
Amor vincit (“Love Conquers”) is a trio for soprano, oboe and cor anglais written on a medieval Latin text. It was performed by the excellent Irena Troupová, Vilém Veverka and his former teacher Dominik Wollenweber. The evening’s programme was conceived as a colourful palette of seemingly incongruous styles; Kopelent’s piece thus appeared in the company of music by Korean composer Isang Yun (1917-1995) but also Johann Sebastian Bach or Jan Dismas Zelenka. The concert was recorded by the Czech Radio.
