Vit Spilka
Vit Spilka Vit Spilka ranks among the prominent Czech clarinettists of the younger generation. He studied with Prof. L. Barton at the Brno Conservatoire and with Dr. V. Vitek at the Janacek Academy in Brno. Further he studied with two outstanding foreign teachers - with A. Gampieri at the Academia Chigiana in Sienna and K. Puddy at Trinity College of Music in London. He took part in several competitions where he received high honours. In 1987 - 1997 he held the position of the principal bass clarinettist with the Brno State Philharmonic Orchestra, where he played under several notable Czech and foreign conductors. He performed as a soloist with the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlin and the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra in Olomouc. He gave solo recitals in Great Britain, Holland, France and Canada. Since 1993 he has been teaching clarinet and chamber music at the Janacek Academy in Brno. He is a lecturer of international interpretation seminars at the music faculty, and is a lecturer at the Clarinet Festival at Zirovnice.
Vit Spilka is a much sought-after performer, not only in the classical repertoire but also in contemporary music. He premiered, recorded and broadcast a number of new compositions.
For many years he has been a member of the prominent Brno Wind Quintet, an ensemble with which he received acclaim for the 1999 album "Czech Music for Wind Quintet". He is a founding member of the Collegium Tre, a trio for clarinet, viola and piano dedicated to the interpretation of 18th and 19th century music.
